19th December 2009. The date when Baar Baar Rafi, the fan club, organised yet another musical evening successfully. The Magic of Rafi Saab. The venue is Ambedkar Bhavan. Every moment of the event is already itched in the memory of all rafi fans present there. The photos are just a reminisce.

Around 30+ songs performed on stage. One of our best singers of Rafi sahab was, Mr. Srikant Narayanan from Mumbai. The president of Baar Baar Rafi Mr. Raj, myself with Mrs. Sinchan and Mrs. Nagachandrika accompanied Srikant in this journey.

Main attraction and importance of that event was the presence of Mr. Ravi Shankar himself (the legendary composer to Rafi Sahab). Srikant performed Chaudhvin Ka Chand with Ravi ji on stage and we later accompanied with many of his and other wonderful compositions like Tumhari Nazar Kyun Khafa Ho Gayi, Tujhko Pukare Mera Pyar, Aaja Tujhko Pukare Mere Geet, Choolene Do Nazuk Honton Ko, etc.

Also there were wonderful instrumental performances from the great team – Sound Of Music to cheer the audiences.

I will hopefully post some songs recorded on the day with video in some days as soon as I get them.

An experience of singing: Mohammed Rafi Nite (2009)

It was August 1st, 2009. This day, I can say, was one of the nicest experiences I have had in singing on stage. It was overwhelming 700 people in the audience keen and eager to listen to wonderful songs of Mohammed Rafi sahab. I was one of the lucky few who was about to perform on stage. Bangalore Gayana Samaj, Bangalore was the venue where we saw atleast 700 people jam packed inside the auditorium and many others standing outside the venue for tickets, which were already sold out. It was all exciting to me and thanks to Mr. Raj and Mr. Narayanan of the Baar Baar Rafi fan group, for giving me an opportunity of this kind. I also thank some of the pillars of the fan group, Mr. Mukund, Mr. Guru Murthy and many others for all their energetic co-operation for making the event a great success.

We started off the Karaoke-Nite with a pre-decided list of 36+ songs. First to be performed was Sukh Ke Sab Saathi from the movie Gopi (1970). Unusually, I wasn’t feeling nervous on stage to sing the opening song, especially when all my wonderful co-singers joined in with this mesmerizing bhajan. We were 8 of us performing that day including myself, Mr. Raj, Mr. Manish, Mrs. Asha, Mrs. Alka, Mrs. Ananya, Ekta (Alka’s daughter) and our well respected Mr. Devraj ji. Most importantly, the audience was very cooperative, amazingly enjoying and encouraging our performances. Some of the songs that we performed included Oh Haseena Zulfon Wali, Mera Man Tera, Maang Ke Saath Tumhara, Kya Hua Tera Wada, Ek Haseen Shaam Ko, Yamma Yamma, etc. Deccan Herald published an article on this event on 7th of August 2009.
